When I was a kid in Christian school, they used to show us these science “film strips” (yes, I’m that old). I still remember one that showed all kinds of images of the cosmos: stars and planets, but also nebulae and supernovas. Then there was another one–or maybe it was the same one–that showed images of the insides of veins, blood-cells, the tiny cosmos inside our own bodies.
I’m not sure if the teacher verbally interpreted this to us, or if I made the connection myself, but I remember having a wondering awareness of how very amazing God was, to have created in such magnitude, and also in such infinitesimal detail.
I’ve been reminded of these film strips and that wonder during Pilgrim Caravan sessions over the last few months. One person is experiencing Jesus in mind-blowing, cosmic ways she’s never known him before. Jesus is engaging another person on what seems to be a spiritually-cellular level which, at the moment, is almost imperceptible to the person in question, although others of us are seeing it.
It’s so very encouraging to know that the God who made what we might call the “mega-verse” and the “micro-verse” also crafted the expanse and the tiniest detail of our souls. It’s absolutely leveling to be granted even the smallest role in partnering with him to tend to those souls’ new creation.
